چکیده

X-ray emission from the supermassive star Eta Carinae (η Carinae) originates from hot shocked gas produced by current stellar mass loss as well as ejecta from prior eruptive events. Absorption of this emission by cool material allows the determination of the spatial and temporal distribution of this material. Emission from the shocked gas can provide important information about abundances through the study of thermal X-ray line emission. We discuss how studies of the X-ray emission from Eta Car at a variety of temporal, spatial and spectral scales and resolutions have helped refine our knowledge of both the continuous and discrete mass loss from the system, and its interactions with more extended material around the star.

Explaining the Early Exit of Eta Carinae from Its 2009 X-ray Minimum with the Accretion Model

We use the accretion model to explain the early exit of η Car from its 2009 X-ray minimum. In the accretion model the secondary star accretes mass from the primary wind near periastron passage, a process that suppresses the secondary wind. As the shocked secondary wind is responsible for most of the X-ray emission, the accretion process accounts for the X-ray minimum. The early exit from the 20...

Detection of Gamma-ray Emission from the Eta-carinae Region

We present the results of extensive observations by the gamma-ray AGILE satellite of the Galactic region hosting the Carina nebula and the remarkable colliding wind binary Eta Carinae (η Car) during the period 2007 July – 2009 January. We detect a gamma-ray source (1AGL J1043-5931) consistent with the position of η Car. If 1AGL J1043-5931 is associated with the Car system our data provide the l...

Radiographic Presentations of Intussusception in Plain Abdominal X-Ray

Intussusception is the most common cause of intestinal obstraction in children aged 3 months to 6 years. Complete understanding of its clinical and radiographic manifestations can play a major role in the early diagnosis and treatment and prevents its complications. In this study plain abdominal X-rays of 51 patients with intussusception were evaluated. Suggestive radiographic signs of the dise...

Early Chandra X-ray Observations of Eta Carinae

Sub-arcsecond resolution Chandra observations of η Car reveal a 40 × 70 ring or partial shell of X-ray emission surrounding an unresolved, bright, central source. The spectrum of the central source is strongly absorbed and can be fit with a high-temperature thermal continuum and emission lines. The surrounding shell is well outside the optical/IR bipolar nebula and is coincident with the Outer ...

Sensitivity and Specifity of Plain X-Ray in Diagnosis of Acute Sinusitis

ABSTRACT With considering of high prevalence of sinusitis and variable imaging modalities in diagnosis of it, we decided to evaluate sensitivity and specifity of plain x-ray in diagnosis of acute sinusitis. In this researeh , CTscan and plain x-ray findings of 83 patients with suspected acute sinusitis (by otorhinolayrngologist) - with considering of ethical and economic notices - were compar...
